CE Marking

CE Marking Consultant in Mumbai

We help Indian manufacturers and exporters in Mumbai, Thane and Vasai-Virar get CE marking right for the European market, from identifying the directives to building the technical file.

Quick answer: CE marking is the manufacturer's declaration that a product meets all applicable EU directives and regulations. Examples are the Low Voltage Directive, the EMC Directive, the Radio Equipment Directive, machinery rules and RoHS. CE marking is required to sell those products in the European Economic Area. For many electrical products the manufacturer can self-declare after testing and preparing a technical file and an EU Declaration of Conformity. Some higher-risk products must be assessed by an EU Notified Body.

CE marking process with DGC

  1. We identify all applicable EU directives and regulations, and the harmonised standards.
  2. We decide the conformity-assessment route: self-declaration or Notified Body.
  3. We coordinate testing (for example safety, EMC and radio) at a suitable laboratory.
  4. We prepare the risk assessment and the technical file.
  5. We draft the EU Declaration of Conformity.
  6. We give guidance on CE marking, labelling and the user manual, including EU importer or authorised representative details.

Common mistakes Indian exporters make

  • Testing to only one directive, for example safety, while missing EMC or RoHS
  • Buying a "CE certificate" from a third party with no technical file behind it
  • Leaving out the EU importer or authorised representative details on the product or its documents
  • Not updating the documents when the product design changes

Strictly speaking, CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer, backed by a technical file and an EU Declaration of Conformity. A certificate from a Notified Body is needed only for certain higher-risk products.

For straightforward electrical products with test reports in hand, documentation can be completed in a few weeks. Products needing Notified Body assessment take longer.

Great Britain uses its own UKCA marking, although CE marking is currently still accepted for many product categories. Northern Ireland follows EU rules. We can confirm the current position for your product.
