Products that commonly need the ISI Mark
- Home and kitchen appliances: electric fans, washing machines, mixer-grinders and hand blenders, electric irons, water heaters and immersion heaters
- Furniture: office chairs and general-purpose chairs, tables and storage units notified under the furniture QCOs
- Kitchenware: stainless-steel and aluminium utensils, and pressure cookers
- Toys: both electric and non-electric toys
- Electrical and building products: cables and wires, switches, plugs and sockets, PVC pipes, and steel products
- Safety products: two-wheeler helmets and other personal protective equipment
The list of notified products keeps growing as ministries issue new QCOs. Always confirm your exact product and IS number before planning production or imports.
Normal procedure vs. simplified procedure
Under the normal procedure, the BIS officer inspects the factory and draws samples, which are then tested before the licence is granted. Under the simplified procedure, the manufacturer submits a test report from a BIS-recognised lab with the application, and BIS verifies the factory afterwards. This is often faster. We advise you on which route fits your product and timeline.
ISI Mark process with DGC
- We identify the IS number and check the QCO and its effective date.
- We carry out a gap check of your factory, including machinery, in-house lab equipment, calibration and QC staff.
- We prepare the documentation: application, quality-control plan, test-equipment list, factory layout and marking details.
- We arrange sample testing at a BIS-recognised laboratory.
- We file the application online and handle fee payment.
- We run a mock audit with your team, then support you during the BIS factory inspection.
- After the licence is granted, we give guidance on ISI marking, the CM/L number and record-keeping.
- We look after surveillance, renewal and adding new brands or varieties.
Tip: Most inspection failures come from missing calibration certificates or incomplete test records. We check both before the BIS visit.
